Dr Robert Smith MA PhD

Author, Consultant, Independent Scholar , and former Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at The University of the West of Scotland.

Summary

Dr Smith is an internationally respected Entrepreneurship and Policing Scholar with over 300 publications. He is an experienced, versatile heterodox qualitative scholar and doctoral supervisor. He was formerly a career police constable with 25 years policing experience in various roles from Response Officer, Tutor Constable, Village Bobby, Community Beat Officer, Collator, Crime Intelligence Officer, Crime Reduction officer and CID. He gained his MA at Aberdeen University and his PhD at Robert Gordon University whilst working full time in his policing role. On retiring from the police he was appointed the Scottish Institute of Policing Lecturer/Reader in Management and Leadership at RGU between 2008 and 2015 when he took up a Professorial Role at UWS. He retired from this role on ill-health and was worked as a consultant and Independent Scholar since then on a variety of projects and roles. He is currently a doctoral supervisor at Heriot Watt University and has visiting roles as a Senior Research Fellow at DeMontfort University, Leicester and at East Midlands and Academic Collaborations [EMPAC], Loughborough University. Rob is a member of the British Society of Criminology [BSC] and The Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship [ISBE].
